Many people who walk into the Valley Art Co-op Gallery and Gift shop say one of two things. First, “I didn’t know this was here!” and, second, “It’s beautiful!”
We opened for business on June 3, 2015, and held our Grand Opening Celebration on July 11. Articles were written in both of the area news papers — here is the article from The Monte Vista Journal. Here is the article published in the Valley Courier.
Being on First Avenue in Monte Vista — Hwy 160 — means we don’t have much foot traffic so you might have to come visit us on purpose! There is parking behind the Monte Villa Inn and you can find our store either directly from 1st Ave or through the hotel. One you’re inside you’ll find work done by artists and crafts people from all over the San Luis Valley.
Like what? In the words of some of our customers, “These greeting cards are beautiful! Next time I’m coming here instead of going to Walmart.” Greeting cards made by Co-op artists, Nancy Harris and Jeaneen McClaren are unique, handmade and priced competitively with any major store. Jeaneen makes special occasion cards while Nancy’s cards can be adapted to anything you need.
“I gotta’ get my wife a birthday present. What do you have?”
“Hmm, look around. There are all kinds of beautiful things in here.”
“Aren’t you about to close?”
“Yeah, but it doesn’t matter. Take your time.”
This Idaho husband went back with a set of Perla Kopeloff’s hand-made paper vases. His wife dries flowers and the vases were PERFECT.
If you happen to be decorating your home, you’ll also find a variety of wall art, from art quilts to intriguing three-dimensional collages to paintings.
If you knit or crochet and you’re looking for some unique materials with which to work, Wanda Couzens-Smith, Kay Harris-Risdahl and Perla Kopeloff all dye and spin yarn that you will not find anywhere else.
Valley Art Co-op Gallery and Gift Shop is a great resource for everyone living in the Valley as well as for visitors traveling through!
