Two artists are returning to the Valley Art Co-op Gallery and Gift Shop, Nancy Harris and Perla Kopeloff. An open house will be held for them at the shop, 925 1st Ave, Monte Vista, CO on September 24th, from 3pm to 6pm. Both artists will be demonstrating their unique art beginning around 2pm: Nancy Harris will demonstrate her collage process and Perla Kopeloff will be spinning alpaca.
Nancy Harris has a Masters in Art History from UC Santa Barbara with experience particularly in mixed media collage. She has taught collage workshops and hopes to continue to offer this opportunity in the San Luis Valley in the future.
Nancy is a mixed media artist creating unique works as she experiments with different types of media that include a variety of materials, colors, textures, and composition. Her process results in colorful, complex, and playful collage arrangements that consist of varied items including paint, paper, and ‘found objects’.
Perla Kopeloff was born in Buenos Aries, Argentina, where she earned a degree as an Architect. She spent many years in Europe before coming the United States. She currently lives in Alamosa where she has a studio and Cara Chamisa Grande B&B. She frequently travels to Santa Fe, NM where she markets her unique felting.
Perla is a weaver, papermaker, and felter learning her techniques from a variety of influences. She is currently focusing on felting, creating an ‘interpretation of ancient looks along with a contemporary felting technique’ that follow a long tradition of wool craftsman honoring women. Perla will be demonstrating how to turn alpaca top to yarn using a wheel and vintage skeiner. Her felting techniques are unique in the sense that silk and merino wool interact with each other creating an exciting transparent cloth.
Her work is displayed at the Valley Art Co-op, at her studio, and at various festivals throughout the region.
Please come and visit with these returning artists during the open house from 3 to 6pm and take time to watch their spinning and collage demonstrations at the Valley Art Co-op in Monte Vista on Saturday Sept. 24th.
