A new and Featured Artist for November, 2016 at Valley Art Co-op Gallery and Shop is Ernie Gallegos. A public reception will be held for him at the shop, 925 1st Ave, Monte Vista, CO on November 18th from 11am to 3pm. Carving demonstrations will take place at 11am and 1pm at the store during the open house. Light refreshments will be served.
Ernie Gallegos is a native of the San Luis Valley from Capulin. He has been interested in leather working from a very young age and began teaching other students at Centauri High School his sophomore year. He graduated high school in 1985 and joined the Army, serving until 2000. He hand carves the leather or uses custom stamps and has broadened his art form to include woodworking.
Ernie makes a variety of items from flasks and key fobs to belt buckles and wallets, recently adding walking sticks that include pieces of antler and other items. He often donates many of his items to the Special Forces Association.
A public reception will be held on November 18th from 11am to 3pm with carving demonstrations at 11 and 1 at the Valley Art Co-op Gallery and Gift Shop, 925 1st Avenue, Monte Vista CO. Light refreshments will be served.
